WOW ! We had an election.....Now What ? The significance of this election may not be realized for years and will only be judged in hindsight by historians and pundits. The slogan for the winner was "Change" and so was the slogan for the loser. The number one issue for Voter's was "The Economy", it ranked almost 30 points higher than terrorism and national security in many polls. In other words, your clients have more fear of losing their jobs, retirement, net worth, than the fear they have of loosing their life or a loved one's to a terroristic attack. By the way, this is opposite of similar polls in the previous presidential election, where fear of terrorism was the number one issue. I may be over simplifying all this, but it could be said that our clients are looking for "Change" in their "Economic Situation" or perhaps they are fearing a "Change" in their "Economic Situation". I believe that American's fear of physical terrorism has been replaced with a fear of financial terrorism. Many have experienced the symptoms of financial terrorism already. All of this creates an environment where your client wants to create more security and act in a more conservative manner when it comes to making financial decisions. Clients are interested in long guarantees and guarantees of principal, even if this results in lower possible rates of returns in their portfolios. As an example, the public outcry recently demanded the increase in FDIC guarantees to be increased to $250,000; all of us know the CD's guaranteed by the FDIC could not provide a lower rate of returns. But money is flooding into these products regardless of their low rates of return. Our clients have spoken and voted, the majority has voted to protect themselves from "Change" in their "Economic Situation". Our clients are living in constant fear of the affliction of "Economic Cancer". You and I have the antidote for this affliction. We have the cure for "Economic Cancer".
